Is it bad to exercise right after waking up?

The only time i have is the early am to do my exercising or it won’t get done. i usually wake up at 6:40 but i’m going to start waking up at 6:00 to do my 40 minutes cardio workout which burns 900 calories. Is it bad to get up and go straight to exercising or should i eat least wake up about 10 minutes and then eat at least a bannana and milk first. And also would it be overdoing it to do the morning workout and then if time do it again in afternoon? (1800 calories burned)

    Hmm . . . didn’t you just ask this? Well, no matter . . .

Working out right after getting up WILL help burn a lot of fat. However, it will also contribute to loss of lean body mass. While asleep, your body is in a catabolic (muscle destroying) state because no nutrition is coming in. If you get up and then work out, you are further stressing the body and prolonging the catabolic state. Thus, your body will use both fat and muscle for fuel.

Losing muscle is NOT a good idea if you are trying to lose weight.

Better idea — have a quick protein/carb snack and then do your training. Give your body something. Just like you wouldn’t try to drive away in your car with a teaspoon of gas in it, don’t do this to your body either.

Exercising before eating is actually a good thing! You’ll get more out of your workout. But make sure you do drink plenty of water. Good luck!

I love my morning workout! I get up, get moving and it feels great! I drink my OJ after the fact. Everyone has their theories of when you should work out, what you should eat and when, how you should do it. If it feels good to you, you’re eating right and feel healthy – then no, there is nothing wrong with it. Why eat 10 minutes before? The food hasn’t had time to break down by then…also…don’t focus on how many calories you’re burning. The workout should be for your total health and mental focus does have an impact. (Also, for a 40 min 900 calorie burn you’d have to be doing some serious, intense workout…what’re you doing?)
